  I opened the door and asked, "Do you want me to walk you to your car?"

  "I don't care.  If you want to you can?"

  So I stood and watched as you walked out.  After several steps you realized I wasn't right behind you and you turned back and waved.  I could see it in your eyes. Why?  Why didn't you walk me out?  You moved out of sight.

  You had said you didn't care.  You said I could if I wanted to.  But I didn't want to because then the ackward moment between us would have lingered and I would have had to look you in the eye and not kiss you.  The next day I would have had to explain why I didn't just do the deed.

  So I stayed at the door.  Just watching you leave.  And I closed it behind you turning off the lights and went to bed.  Alone.
